For a number of years in Auckland I have trained with Mike Ansari in the field of martial arts (Wing Chun Kung fu and Tae Kwon Do). He is a qualified trainer in both of these disciplines.
The training schedule, still underway, has been fulfilling in that it has instilled in me not only physical fitness but also a mental and spiritual fitness and awareness.
In my time as a student of Master Mike’s, as I call him, there has been much discussion about life and, in particular, what is people are looking for and trying to achieve.
In our conversation, Master Mike has described in full details his experiences gained through meditation and fasting. These have provided vast insights into some fundamental questions we had both asked about life.
A result of this has been subtle but definite movement in how I see the world, how I see people around me and thus in my consciousness.
Mater Mike’s central and guiding philosophy has always been a concept of what he refers to as “purity”. This begins with the premise of where he sees other people as a mirror, a reflection of himself.
While this might sound “pointy-head”, his philosophy has been a revelation for me in that, from a spiritual perspective, this has led me to see other people in a new light where I am more aware, more tolerant and more respectful of them.
From a practical point-of-view it has instilled more confidence and more awareness in me. This has contributed to the change in how I see and behave in the world and has helped lead to a more rounded and balanced individual. I have never known myself to the degree that I do now.
Thanks you Master Mike.
